/Summary
Satou was in his freshman year of college when he suddenly had a mental breakdown. He hasn't left his apartment much since then, spending most of his time just lying in his room hallucinating random shit. He eventually comes up with the Nihon Hikkikomori Kyokai conspiracy. An evil corporation furthering the development of hikkis like him.
/Review
The true conspiracy is how this show got popular. Oh wait I know, a bunch of people who aren't shut-ins romanticize it and a bunch of shut-ins that haven't woke up to reality liked it.
Man I wish that a super cute girl literally walks up to my door wanting to help me out my shut-in ways. The keyword is "wish" because I'm not delusional enough to believe. It's pure fantasy, fake, and absolute illusion. No way this flat circle of a man has not one but TWO women that want him.
Misaki being one of them seems like the type of character that would be part of a delusion that a MC in a denpa would have. Even with the "twist" of her actually manipulating him the entire time. No fucking shit. As I said some cute girl walks into your life that seemingly wants you and trys to help. Red flags and sirens should be going off in your head. Especially with how clear it was that something fishy was going on. No way Satou feel for that stick box of a trap. None of it would've happened if Satou followed the doctrine of 3DPD.
The rest of the cast is the same thing, flat as a loli. They feel like a parody of what kind of person they're supposed to be portraying. It's absolutely hilarious that people found these characters interesting. The incel dude that is a walking contradiction of himself, the schizo chick, etc. The only character I liked was Hitomi, but sadly she doesn't show up as often...
I've heard so much praise of the show being "realistic" or "accurate" portrayal of hikki. Lol, lmao even. Satou's struggles don't seem like much struggles at all. He's the most inconsistent character in the show. He's sits all day in his room watching TV or on his computer but needs to be told what Galges are or that internet porn exist?? Does he just stare at a wall and watch the paint dry? He's supposed to be an anti social loser but can hold a conversation past the first 3 episodes and got to Comiket and fucking Akihabara with no problem?? For a show about this guy's hikki status it doesn't dwell much on his life within it past ep 1.
Satou is supposed to be a nut case wallowing in his sorrows but barley anything paints that picture other than the conspiracy shtick that you guessed it, is dropped by ep 1. It paints the picture of some relatively normal dude that is a bit weird. This guys problems consist of A. He needs to do something but due to some bullshit he can't, or B. Someone walks up to the dude giving him a solution to solve a problem but he's too dumb to take it.
If most shut-ins including me problems where that little I doubt we'd be shut-ins in the first place. They couldn't even write a proper conclusion to him stopping his hikki ways. He literally just walks outside in ep 22 and is suddenly cured. No build up just a ok being outside and getting a job.
I guess my main problem is that it simplify being a hikki to a point where it doesn't feel seriously taken. It feels like it was written by people who have little to no experience with being a shut-in. The isolation, shunning of your family and friends, your only contact of the outside world being the internet. It fucking sucks but they don't show much of that. They're solution of getting out of the life style is "just do it". If it was that simple I doubt it'll be a real problem.
