Even if you think you haven’t, you’ve seen this game. The front girl is plastered all over those ‘y2k dnb chill’ mixes on youtube. Even though most of the songs in those mixes aren’t dnb and are just electronic but whatever. My point is that it’s kinda embedded itself into certain areas of the culture. It’s a little interesting on how much it’s stuck around, not just in those ‘y2k’ aesthetics. I mean most non new gens on the online side of gaming know the infamous E3 2006 meme with it. The music also itself gets a whole bunch of streams from people who have never played the game. Nobody can resist Ridge Race: R4.

This might be the best ps1 racer for me, ofc there's shit like Wipeout and Gran Turismo 2 on it. They’re top 3 but they don’t have the sauce that R4 has. The gameplay is smooth, running at a nice solid 30 fps with an additional disc that plays it at 60!! Which is kinda insane for a 3ds game of the era. The graphics and look still hold up amazingly, well actually the graphics look good for a ps1 game. The music is this high pace jazzy electronic mix that hypes you up during the race. Everything melds together so well to create such a wonderful gaming experience.

One flaw that it does have is that it can get repetitive. Compared to the other titles before it, the track variety is great!! We’re going from 1-3 to like 8 off the bat with more being unlockable. I think that having to unlock them in the various modes is the repetitive part. There's like so many unlockables, which would be good if there were a variety of ways of unlocking. I get it’s a racing game but there couldn’t be like a little of a mix up. I mean there’s only 3 game modes. Story, time trial, and Vs, which will have you playing the same courses to unlock the 500000 cars available. It’s not really a big deal if you're not 100% but when I buy a game I like to milk it for everything it’s got. I mean I spent 25 bucks on you!! The rest of the game is perfect backshots 10/10. I love this game blah blah blah blha loving it.
