I am not a professional just a person who is really passionate about this genre. I reccomend you read other guides this is based on my experiences so yea.
Hey yo wsp, I'm duke! I've been playing fighting games for 6 years? If youre here, maybe youre reading this because youre curious or want to get into fighting games. People from my experience tend to be scared to get into it because its 'intimidating' or 'hard'. I dissagree, even with some of the harder games like sf3 or kof13 where some of my first. Also giving something a try doesnt hurt, theyres plenty of ways to try them for FREEEEE!!!! (I'll tell you later) First you wanna choose a game, I reccomend an easier game to learn. But whatever looks cool to you should be the one you go with. I reccomend Street Fighter 6, Melty Blood: Actress Again, Guilty Gear: Strive, and Tekken 8. Although I will stress that you should PLAY WHATEVER YOU WANT. If you don't want to spend money but get a feel for the genre, Fightcade is a great way to do that. Certain games also have community ran versions like MBAA: Cccaster for free aswell.
Well now you have choosen a game and got a feel. Take it online!! I reccomend just hopping into matchmaking as all modern fighter have them. Maybe get a friend or joining the community discord asking for some games. Do you like the game? No? Try another one if you want, you will NOT like every fighter you come across. You do like it? Also try another one, its not bad to see what other stuff is out there. Ok so now you decided what game you will stick with, when I stick with I mean main game. You don't have to become a online warrior or go to EVO. Casuals are also a important part of the FGC! Try and find your main! What character do YOU want to focus on and play. Weither its the one you find or fun to play, maybe even...hot? You choose, this is your main. Some people chose a secondary so if you cant decide between two, play them both!
Now that you choose who you wan to play, check out the community of the game, such as the discord or wiki! You will find a lot of resources in these places, such as beginner character guides or game mechanics. In the discord, you may also want to start talking with people. Its important to have some homies to play with so it isnt just randoms! I have met some great and amazing people through just interacting with the communties. People that I'm still friend with today.
After that, congrats! You are officially started with your fighting game journey. This isn't the end all be all just a couple things I thought wouldlve been useful to know when I started! Have fun! :)
